For over a century, professional cycling has been almost exclusively dominated by European nations. A few years ago, Colombia made history by breaking through that barrier for Latin America.
In Africa, South Africa was the first to enter the professional world stage. However, because their roster consisted entirely of white riders of British and Dutch descent, many felt the team didn’t truly represent the heart of black Africa.
Eritrea stands alone. As the only nation to produce homegrown talent of African descent, it has shattered Europe’s long-standing stronghold. Today, Eritrea has earned its place at the top, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with cycling giants like France, Belgium, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Wherever you are, as an African, let’s give a massive round of applause to Eritrea for this incredible feat! ![]()
